In a retrospective study using data from 2005 and 2006, French researchers evaluated the efficacy of second-line chemotherapy in pleural mesothelioma patients who had previously undergone treatment with pemetrexed. The data came from two separate oncology facilities.
The purpose of the study was to determine if multiple rounds of chemotherapy, administered several months apart, could be helpful in slowing the progression of malignant mesothelioma. The use and effectiveness of second-line chemotherapy has not been established for mesothelioma, but patients who are in good physical shape and are still experiencing disease progression may be candidates for the treatment.
